Dental Fillings

What is a dental filling? What are the types?

Unhealthy teeth will also reduce your comfort of life. Therefore, oral and dental health is extremely important. Caries in the teeth pose a significant risk for dental health. Tooth decay can spread to all your teeth, so it needs to be treated.

It is the process of restoring decayed, broken or cracked teeth with various materials. To save the tooth, the process of cleaning the caries in the tooth and filling it with composite materials compatible with the body is called dental filling. The main purpose of the filling treatment, which is applied to the teeth that have lost material, without the progression of caries, is to prevent tooth loss.

Who is a dental filling applied to?

Only your dentist can give the answer to the question of who can get a dental filling. In this, he should definitely examine you. Filling is applied to teeth that have decayed, broken or damaged for any reason.

How is a dental filling done?

The tooth is checked and the remaining tooth tissue is made suitable for filling. Procedures such as cleaning the caries or cleaning the old fillings that have been made before are done at this stage. Then, according to the position of the tooth in the mouth and the size of the filling made, the space formed with the appropriate material is filled into the cleaned areas. These procedures are performed under local anesthesia for the comfort of the patient. At the last stage, the compliance control and height of the filling are checked and the treatment is completed.

What should be considered after tooth filling?

If anesthesia is given during your treatment, you should not eat before the effect of the anesthesia wears off. In cases of eating without the effect of anesthesia, teeth or lips may be bitten, and intraoral injuries may occur. The effect of anesthesia lasts between 3 hours and 5 hours to the area applied to the chin, but the duration of this effect varies from person to person. Physician recommendations must be followed.

Pain or sensitivity, which can last up to 12 hours, appears normal in the tooth treated after the filling treatment. At the end of this period, if you have increased or continuing pain, you should definitely contact your dentist.

Is tooth decay contagious?

Although it is not directly contagious, if there is a bacterial exchange between individuals, it can also be contagious depending on the caries susceptibility. Newborn babies do not have bacteria that can cause caries in the mouth. However, mothers, fathers or family elders can transfer bacteria through saliva while feeding or kissing their babies.

Can dental filling be done at home?

For reasons such as the use of laser beams for the hardening of dental fillings and the sterility of the working environment, dental fillings should be performed in a clinical setting.

What is Aesthetic (Composite) filling?

It is the process of ensuring that the tooth, which is treated with a material used in a color compatible with the tooth tissue, looks compatible with other teeth. However, the composite is ultimately a filler and it is not recommended for patients who want a smile design.

Does the tooth filling fall out?

In recurrent caries, depending on the habit of clenching teeth, abnormal chewing habits, hard materials, fractures, cracks or falling of the filling are possible. In such cases, an appointment should be made with the dentist again and the filling should be repeated without wasting time. Until your appointment time, in order not to cause greater damage, you should avoid consuming hard foods, brush your teeth, keep it clean and this area should not be used while eating.

Which bruises cannot be filled?

In cases where the damage to the tooth covers a large part of the tooth, in case of spontaneous pain, filling treatment may not be applied. In such cases, radiographic examination and dental examination are extremely important.

Does tooth filling cause odor in the mouth?
